A clear path for every ballplayer

Develop the Player.
Build the Person.

Age-appropriate fundamentals, purposeful practice, and positive coaching help young athletes grow with confidence—one quality repetition at a time.

Progress over pressure

Meet players where they are—and help them take the next step.

Development is not a race. Players grow at different speeds physically, mentally, and emotionally. The best plan gives each athlete a strong foundation, achievable challenges, honest feedback, and the freedom to learn from mistakes.

Age-appropriate progression

A pathway from first catch to confident competitor

01Discover

Ages 6–8

Fun, movement, and basic coordination
  • Throw and catch with confidence
  • Athletic fielding position
  • Balanced swings from a tee
  • Run the bases in the correct order

Coach’s focusUse short activities, simple language, and plenty of encouragement. Success should feel possible on every rep.

02Build

Ages 9–10

Repeatable fundamentals and game awareness
  • Four-seam throwing accuracy
  • Routine ground balls and fly balls
  • Consistent load and contact
  • Basic force-play and cutoff decisions

Coach’s focusIntroduce position responsibilities and competition while continuing to rotate players and develop complete athletes.

03Apply

Skill execution at game speed
  • Quick transfers and stronger throws
  • Pitch recognition and approach
  • Pitching command and changeup feel
  • Leads, reads, relays, and situational play

Coach’s focusIncrease game-like pressure gradually. Teach players to evaluate decisions, make adjustments, and prepare independently.

04Compete

Ages 13+

Strength, consistency, and role development

Complete player development

Build the five core tools together.

Strong players connect sound mechanics with awareness, confidence, and consistent effort.

01

Throwing

Direction before distance

Grip across the seams, align the front side, step to the target, and finish with balance.

02

Fielding

Move the feet first

Create a good hop, field the ball out front, secure it, and build momentum into the throw.

03

Hitting

Quality contact wins

Build balance, rhythm, pitch recognition, and a swing that stays through the hitting zone.

04

Base Running

Sprint with awareness

Teach players to run hard, read the ball and coach, touch the correct part of the base, and finish every play.

05

Pitching & Catching

Command and care

Develop repeatable movement, communication, receiving, blocking, and healthy throwing habits.

Simple goals that create momentum

One skill. One action. One way to measure it.

Choose goals the player can influence. “Get three hits” depends on the defense and the umpire. “Swing at strikes and hit five line drives during tee work” gives the player a clear action.

PLAYER GOAL EXAMPLE

Improve throwing accuracy

Action
Complete 20 four-seam target throws, three days each week.
Measure
Record how many throws pass through the target gate.
Coach cue
Front shoulder, direct step, balanced finish.
Review
Check progress after two weeks and adjust the target distance.

Evaluate the whole player

Look beyond statistics.

Use observations to guide instruction—not to label a young athlete.

01

Fundamentals

Does the player use repeatable, age-appropriate mechanics?

02

Decisions

Does the player recognize the situation and choose the correct play?

03

Effort

Does the player compete, hustle, and stay engaged without being reminded?

04

Coachability

Can the player listen, try a correction, and respond positively?

05

Teamwork

Does the player communicate, encourage teammates, and respect every participant?

Ten productive minutes at home

Small work. Done consistently.

No full field is required. Use a safe space, age-appropriate equipment, and adult supervision.

2 MIN

Athletic warmup

Jumping jacks, arm circles, skips, and controlled movement.

3 MIN

Wall or partner catches

Focus on ready position, watching the ball, and soft hands.

3 MIN

Dry swings

Practice balance, load, and a smooth finish without chasing power.

2 MIN

Baseball thinking

Talk through one game situation and let the player explain the decision.

The Bullpen Bandits promise

Every player deserves quality instruction and a genuine chance to improve.
